Carport Types We Build

Carports come in a range of configurations depending on the intended use, attachment to the home or a freestanding location, and the size of what needs to be covered. Here’s what we build:

Attached carport: A carport that connects to the home or an existing structure on one or more sides. An attached carport uses the existing building as a support element and provides covered access directly from the house without walking through the weather.
Freestanding carport: A standalone carport with its own posts on all sides, not connected to any other structure. Freestanding carports can be placed anywhere on the property and are the more flexible option when the desired location is away from the home.
Double carport: A two-vehicle carport — wider than a single, designed to accommodate two side-by-side vehicles. A double carport is the most common residential carport size in this area.
Metal carport: Carport construction using a metal roof and steel or metal post-and-beam framing. Metal carports are durable, resistant to Tennessee’s weather, and the standard material choice for residential and agricultural carport construction.
Steel carports: The same thing described with different terminology — steel framing and metal roofing. "Steel carport" and "metal carport" refer to the same type of construction.
RV carport & metal RV carport: An oversized carport built to accommodate an RV or travel trailer — taller clearance for the roof height, wider span for the vehicle width, and typically a metal roof to cover the full length. We size RV carports based on the actual dimensions of the vehicle or the largest vehicle expected to use it.
Boat carport: Similar in function to an RV carport but sized for a boat and trailer. Boat carports typically have a lower peak height than RV carports but a similar open-sided design that allows the boat to be backed in and out easily.

What to Expect From Our Carport Process

We start every carport project with a site visit and assessment. The site conditions, setback requirements, intended vehicle or equipment, and attachment point (if any) all affect how the carport is configured. We provide a written estimate with dimensions, materials, and timeline specified before any work begins.

Post setting and anchoring is the most critical step in carport construction — posts that are inadequately anchored will move under wind load. We use proper anchoring methods for the site conditions and size the footings to the structural requirements of the build. All work is done to code with permits where required.
